Sebnem Ferah, Istanbul concerts

Sebnem Ferah has been one of Turkish rock's most consistent live draws for three decades, and the two Istanbul dates on this run are worth treating as separate events rather than a repeat booking, because the rooms are not comparable.

Kucukciftlik Park on 17 October is the big one. It is an open-air site of about 9,000 square metres in Sisli, opened in 2009, that takes up to around 17,000 people standing and roughly 3,500 to 5,000 in a seated configuration. A standing crowd at that scale is a different concert: louder, denser, and much more of a rock show in the way the audience behaves.

Harbiye Acikhava on 7 November is the opposite proposition. It is a seated open-air amphitheatre of about 4,532 places, close enough to the stage throughout that the quieter material actually lands. If you want to hear the set rather than be inside it, this is the date to pick.

If you are only going to one, the choice is honestly about what kind of night you want rather than about which show is better. November is also the colder of the two at an uncovered venue, which is worth weighing.

Kucukciftlik Park is in the Sisli and Maslak corridor, on the metro and metrobus network and close to the Dolmabahce and Macka side of the city. It is reachable without a car, and on a 17,000-capacity night that is by far the better plan: the exit crowd around the park is substantial.

Harbiye Acikhava is in Harbiye, Sisli, next to the Istanbul Congress Centre, a short walk from Osmanbey or Taksim on the M2 and walkable from Taksim Square.

Both venues sit inside the central nightlife area, so neither night has to end when the concert does. Beyoglu and Nisantasi are walkable or a short ride from either.

Ticketed per show through the usual Turkish ticketing platforms, priced independently for each date. The two dates are separate sales, so selling out on one has no bearing on the other.

The pricing structures differ with the rooms: Kucukciftlik Park sells largely as standing general admission, while Harbiye prices by seating block, which usually gives it a wider spread between the cheapest and most expensive seats.

Turkish rock fans, and anyone who wants a live band rather than a DJ set that night. This is a full-band show in both rooms.
