Edis, Harbiye Acikhava concerts

Edis is one of the more dependable pop draws on the Harbiye open-air concert calendar, which is why he has two separate two-night runs in a single season rather than one date. The September pair, on the 20th and 21st, and the November pair, on the 5th and 6th, are part of the Paribu Harbiye Acikhava Konserleri programme, the venue's own long-running concert series.

That series framing is the useful thing to know. Harbiye books a rolling programme across the warmer half of the year, so an Edis night sits alongside dozens of other shows in the same room. If one of the four dates sells out, the others are separate sales and separate rooms full of people, so a sold-out label on one night says nothing about the next.

The venue is a large part of why these shows work. Cemil Topuzlu Acikhava Tiyatrosu is an open-air amphitheatre with around 4,532 seats and an orchestra pit sized for about 80 musicians, built into the slope in Harbiye. It is seated rather than standing, which sets a very different tone from an arena show: closer, quieter between songs, and considerably more comfortable.

The November dates carry a weather question that the September ones do not. This is an uncovered venue, and early November in Istanbul can be cold and wet. Shows go ahead in light rain, and the audience deals with it.

Harbiye is in Sisli, immediately next to the Istanbul Congress Centre and the Military Museum, and within easy walking distance of Taksim. The M2 metro serves it from both ends: Osmanbey to the north and Taksim to the south are each a short walk.

Because it is this central, the venue is the rare Istanbul concert site where you do not need to plan the journey home. Taksim's nightlife is a ten-minute walk from the gate, which is what makes a Harbiye show a natural first half of an evening rather than the whole of it.

Driving is the worse option. Parking around Harbiye and Nisantasi on a concert night is genuinely difficult and the surrounding streets are slow. Take the metro.

Ticketed per show through Bubilet and the other Turkish ticketing platforms, with pricing set independently for each of the four dates. Seated venues price by block, so the spread between the front tiers and the back is wide.
