Istanbul Jazz Festival

IKSV's jazz festival is an institution rather than a booking, and the 2026 edition was its 33rd. It runs close to 30 concerts across more than ten venues over a fortnight, with around 200 artists, which makes it a genuine programme rather than a headline act with support.

The name undersells what it books. The 2026 lineup ran from Robert Plant and Marcus Miller through Arooj Aftab and Thee Sacred Souls alongside leading Turkish jazz musicians, which is the pattern every year: jazz at the centre, with pop, soul, electronic and global music around it. That breadth is why the crowd is much wider than the word jazz suggests.

The venue spread is the festival's real character. Concerts land in concert halls, historic buildings, open-air sites and parks across both sides of the city, and part of the appeal is that a ticket takes you somewhere you would not otherwise go. It is also the practical complication, since two shows on the same night can be an hour apart.

For anyone building a summer trip around music, this is the strongest single anchor in the Istanbul calendar, and it is worth choosing dates around the programme rather than hoping the programme fits your dates. IKSV publishes it well in advance.

There is no single festival site. Venues are spread across Istanbul, so transport depends entirely on which concert you have a ticket for, and the venue is printed on the ticket for a reason.

Central venues around Beyoglu, Harbiye and Besiktas are straightforward on the M2 metro and on foot. Outlying and open-air venues are the ones to check in advance, particularly for getting back after a late finish.

If you are booking more than one night, look at the venues as well as the lineups. Two consecutive nights on opposite sides of the Bosphorus is a very different trip from two nights within walking distance.
