Istanbul Festivali (Yenikapi)

This is the largest music event on the Istanbul calendar by capacity, and its shape comes from who runs it. Because the city organises it through IBB Kultur A.S. rather than a single commercial promoter, the lineup is not built around one genre or one audience, and a fortnight's programme covers ground no private festival would attempt.

The 2026 edition ran 1 to 16 August across Turkish pop and rock veterans including Ajda Pekkan, Gulsen, Hande Yener, Duman, Yildiz Tilbe and Sagopa Kajmer, a dedicated K-pop stage with ATEEZ, MONSTA X and Sunmi, and international EDM with Tiesto. The opening night, Central Cee with Turkish rap artist Motive, was reported as the most crowded concert in the festival's history.

The site does the rest. Festival Park Yenikapi is roughly 120,000 square metres of reclaimed waterfront handling around 75,000 people a day, which is why it can hold a genuinely arena-scale audience without the constraints of an actual arena. For scale context, that is well over four times what Kucukciftlik Park takes standing.

The practical consequence of the range is that whoever you are searching for, there is a real chance they played Yenikapi that August. That also means picking a day matters more here than at any other event on this list, because two nights of the same festival can share almost no audience.

Yenikapi is one of Istanbul's biggest transit hubs by design rather than by accident. The Marmaray cross-Bosphorus rail line, the M1 and M2 metro lines and the ferry terminal all meet there, which makes it the easiest large outdoor venue in the city to reach and, more importantly, to leave.

That last part is the real advantage. Getting out of a 75,000-capacity site at 1am is where most festivals fail, and Yenikapi has rail capacity in four directions rather than a road and a taxi rank.

From the Asian side, the Marmaray takes you directly under the Bosphorus into Yenikapi, which is faster than any road crossing on a festival night.

Ticketed per day and per artist through the usual Turkish ticketing platforms rather than as a single festival pass, so the cost of a fortnight depends entirely on which nights you pick.

Because the city is the organiser, headline pricing has generally sat below what an equivalent commercial festival charges for comparable international acts, which is a large part of the demand.

Some daytime programming, including sports, children's activities and food stalls, is free to enter. The paid element is the evening concert programme.

About as broad as an Istanbul event gets: K-pop fans, Turkish pop and rock audiences, rap and EDM crowds, and families for the daytime programme.

Visitors who want one large, easy-to-reach event rather than a night planned around a specific venue. The transport situation makes this the low-effort option.

Anyone deciding between nights should pick on the lineup alone, since the site and the logistics are identical across the run and the audiences are not.
